Adam Weekly - Issue # 66

Hello, and welcome to the first issue of this new year! Last week was a hiatus for the column, but we're back this week. Hope you all have been enjoying the holidays and are having a safe New Year.

Last week on RAW was the second edition of The Cutting Edge... And this time, once again, Ric Flair was supposed to be the special guest. Instead of the actual Nature Boy, we were all treated to his visage on the TitanTron, with someone else's mouth edited in and another guy's voice (it was later said that it was Matt Striker doing the impression) speaking. "Flair" admitted to blowing up on the road when the driver of the other car said that Edge "is better than him." Edge laughed about it, concurred that he is better than the Nature Boy in every way, and then the real Flair ended up making his way to the ring when he'd finally had enough of the taunting.

In case you didn't see WWE.com's Unlimited this week, the segment didn't actually end with Flair punching Edge, and with Lita getting Ric off of him and the couple running up the ramp. Seems the two went back to the ring for some more, and while Lita distracted the Intercontinental Champion, Edge attacked him from behind. He had the upper hand for awhile until Flair reversed him into the turnbuckles and then delivered a back bodydrop. After that, Edge escaped to the outside, to the arena floor and actually seemed to pay homage to his nemesis by doing the trademark fall Flair always does. He and Lita then ran up the ramp to retreat to the back, complete with Edge clutching his jaw. And on television, we all got to hear Vince McMahon tell Todd Grisham to let Flair know that at New Year's Revolution, he would be facing Edge and defending the IC title against him.

So, it turns out that the rumors of Edge vs Flair were true after all. However, I'm a bit surprised that it's an Intercontinental Championship match. As already stated last issue, Edge doesn't need the IC strap for a 6th time. He is Mr. Money in the Bank and has a guaranteed shot at the BIG title. Nonetheless, I suppose it's not a horrible thing if he wins the Intercontinental title again. It's not the ideal situation for this point in his career when he's already held it 5 times, but it could certainly be worse. Feuding with Ric Flair is a good thing in my eyes, since the Naitch is such a legend in the business. It's also an obvious plus that Edge is competing again, because it means he is healing from his pec injury. Whether or not he wins the IC title again, however, remains to be seen. It wouldn't surprise me to see the match between the two end in a disqualification (and there are many scenarios in which such a thing could take place). Personally, I'm excited about New Year's Revolution, and I cannot wait to see what happens. Also, RAW should be good tomorrow night, and we should see Edge and Lita. I'm not sure Edge will have a match, but I can see him definitely making his presence known in some form or fashion - maybe in interfering in a match Flair might be in.

Well, that's it for this week. Be sure to watch RAW tomorrow, and enjoy the rest of New Year's Day!
