On April 11, 2011, live on RAW, the Rated R Superstar Edge shockingly announced his retirement. With his final match being a successful World Heavyweight Championship defense at WrestleMania 27, he went out on a very high note. On the following night during the SmackDown tapings, Edge addressed the fans and relinquished the World title. He gave a heartfelt speech and thanked his mother, Judy, who sat in the front row, proudly supporting her son. Edge's WWE career was an amazing one that spanned 13 terrific years.
